We are excited to bring you an exclusive interview with Albert Panicello, the director of snow activities at Rocroi. This outdoor enthusiast will guide us into the captivating world of mushing, sharing the details of this thrilling sport that enchants nature and dog lovers alike.

A PASSIONATE MUSHER AND SPORTS ENTHUSIAST

Albert Panicello, originally from Ripollès and currently residing in Nevà, spends most of his time working in Andorra with RocRoi. His journey into mushing began with his initial tasks in Andorra, gradually deepening his involvement with RocRoi. Over time, he became the director of all snow-related activities and also oversees the commercial side and other mountain activities throughout the year.

Mushing became an integral part of Albert’s life over 16 years ago and quickly grew into his passion. This sport, which fosters a unique bond with sled dogs, has given Albert not only unforgettable experiences but also the joy of sharing this exciting adventure with his children.

THE SECRET OF DOG SELECTION

With 75 dogs under his care, Albert and the Rocroi team have learned the secrets of selecting dogs for Mushing. The breed of dogs they use is “Alaskan Huskies,” a unique mix that takes various traits such as speed and energy into account to ensure a strong and efficient team.

CARE AND ATTENTION TO DOGS

The dogs are well-cared for, healthy, and live in excellent conditions. The facilities are modern, featuring shaded areas, running water, and spacious yards where the dogs can play and run. Each enclosure houses 3 to 4 dogs to encourage socialization and interaction among them.

During the summer, the dogs are given time to rest, allowing them to relax and prepare for the winter season.

Their diet is simple yet protein-rich: they are fed high-energy kibble mixed with chicken to meet their nutritional needs.

TIPS FOR NEW MUSHING PRACTITIONERS

For those new to the world of mushing, Albert offers valuable advice. His key principle is patience—important for both dogs and humans. He also stresses the significance of proper training and ensuring the dogs have plenty of opportunities to run and play, keeping them both happy and healthy.
